They SHOOT! They SCORE...at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre

Guy LaFleur by Andy MacDonald
From time to time, we are fortunate to have some of gallery artists be part of exhibits at the lovely Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.   We were delighted to send them the latest painting by Luke Naylor and new works by Andy MacDonald (originally from Glace Bay, Cape Breton!)

Luke played  varsity hockey at Dalhousie University (BA 98), and also had a brief professional career in Germany. He then decided to pursue art as a career, turning up in Mexico, where he studied art with well-known Mexican artist Gerardo Ruiz Maldonado.

Andy has been creating works for years, but hasn't shown his work in galleries until fairly recently. He loves to paint on found objects. In the series at the Civic Centre currently, there are whimsical-colorful  paintings of hockey players on old fence rungs which are a favourite amoung viewers!

Here's a quick snap shot from the Civic Centre, including Luke's large painting, and small one of Andy's, along side some hockey memorabilia and some clever "hockey stick art by another Cape Breton based artist, who makes folk art birds tables, and chairs from old hockey sticks.

If you are in Cape Breton, make sure to stop in Port Hawkesbury and see the show- there's even table hockey for the kids!
