Abigail Lower draws and paints with charcoal like no other! Her workshops have been so well received so we have added another for the 2018 season. The animal that we will be drawing is still to be determined, as we are hoping to work with a REAL LIFE animal model. No previous experience is required and all supplies are provided.  You are going to have so much fun- just look at what the last class created; keep in mind most of these were drawn by people that have never picked up charcoal or drawn since a child.

Felted Wild Rose Brooch Workshop with Tacha Reed- 
Sunday, February 11th , 11am-2pm, $80

This workshop is a perfect introduction into needle and wet felting but challenging enough for anyone who has worked with felting before too. You will work with a varieties of fibres to create a wearable piece of art. The cost of workshop includes all necessary supplies to create one felted wild rose brooch and participants will receive the basic supplies needed to help get them started on future felting projects.  Workshop includes supplies to take home (needles, needle holder, awl, felting mat, thimbles and a selection of fibres and a pin-back for the brooch)  Light Refreshments will be served.

WINTER HIKE AND PAINT with Mark Brennan
Sunday, February 18th, 12:30pm-3:30pm, $85

This unique workshop encourages you to embrace Winter and painting the same way artist Mark Brennan does! Join naturalist- artist Mark on a short hike around a selected path at Point Pleasant Park, Halifax, NS, followed by instruction and painting inside at the famous George Wright House located at 989 Young Avenue. Cozy up with art and hot beverages after your walk, and learn from this wonderful artist. All supplies will be provided and no previous experience is necessary.

Melissa Townsend is a successful local artist who has made art a career but not without it's challenges. Balancing her art practice with  everyday life and family responsibilities can sometimes stall creativity or inspiration. Melissa will speak about her own journey with art and how she has learned to make art part of her life and overall wellness. This is a talk and workshop for anyone looking to start making art or explore your own creativity. There will be a watercolour component to this as well. No previous experience required and all supplies will be provided. You'll also get a sneak peek into what Melissa is working on currently.

Art Talk and Demonstration

Gordon MacDonald is an artist's artist- meaning that whenever our gallery artists have a question about materials or process, we can always ask Gordon. He is so encouraging to everyone that wants to learn more! This talk will be suitable for both artists and non-artists alike to attend. Gordon will speak about his process of painting but also demonstrate how he uses different types of glazing to create some of the luminous effects he achieves in his paintings. You will also get a glimpse into a new work or two before anyone else. We love watching Gordon paint-it's meditative. Join us!

Exciting News! We have just added a demo/ workshop to our listing for March! This one is perfect for for anyone and all ages who has ever wanted to begin drawing or have been drawing but not happy with your results. Dave is a master of first and foremost, the pencil and shading. Although many know him as a street or mural artist creating 3-d paintings and super heroes, at the end of the day, drawing well is at the root of all successful works for Dave- whether on concrete, paper or canvas. Dave will demonstrate a few techniques he has learned over the years that may help you with your art journey. Supplies will be provided however participants are encouraged to bring their own sketchbooks to work in.
