Basil Doucette

The ever charming Basil Doucette was by the gallery the other day, once again with his suitcase filled with new carvings to share with the world. Here's one of my favorite new pieces : a very expressive owl, perched high on a branch.

Rainbows Everywhere!

The pride parade has just ended, and now happy people are spilling out onto the streets on the hunt for ice cream and cold beverages. What a great reminder today has been, of how important it is to express your true self openly. Congratulations to all the participants (especially to the LGBT community) for putting on a great show!

HAPPY PRIDE EVERYONE!!

Tomorrow, downtown Halifax will play host to one of our very favorite events,
THE PRIDE PARADE!!!
Last year was our first taste of having a front row seat since moving onto Barrington, and boy - What an eyefull! We hope that every last one of you  will make your way out to the streets to cheer on this beautiful event.

If you're handy to Barrington Street, pop into the gallery and say hello!! We have a terrific array of artists on feature, including Becky Thompson's Boats (as seen below)
and Steve Richards jaw dropping nudes.

And then there was one.

If you ask me, THIS is the piece de resistance from Mary Garoutte's solo show "Backyards and Alleyways." It also happens to be the very last oil painting that remains from the exhibition...  It's such an evocative painting, with beautifully dramatic lights and darks. It's in our front window today, eliciting oooooh's and aaaaaaaah's from passersby.

Gregg Tracey

Gregg Tracey is a man who turns all of his life's projects into incredible creative endeavors. He does it all, and works hard at perfecting each of his fine crafts. Here at the gallery you'll find his gorgeous indigo woodcut prints, but if you know Gregg, then you know that he also crafts remarkable guitars, ukuleles, is a dedicated farmer, and a talented painter.

Have a look at a few of the (hard to photograph) limited edition woodcuts we
have here at Argyle Fine Art:

Little Mort.

So we're a week into our latest exhibitions by Melissa Townsend and Mary Garoutte, and both have nearly sold out. Mary has but one piece left  (an absolutely magnificent rendering of the the McKay Bridge) and Melissa has but a few lonely birds... One being Mort. Mort the seagull.
Poor little Mort has to endure the tortures of gallery living until he finds a new home, and I don't think he's impressed. Won't you help him?

Welcome Home, Vaughn Gray!

We can't tell you how pleased we are to share that the tremendously talented landscape artist Vaughn Gray has reunited with our fair city, and is back to painting painting painting again!! He's been in Yarmouth for a few years, and wasn't in the position where he could paint freely... BUT! Now that he's returned, he has jumped back into the studio with fresh excitement, and we've already received our first collection of new works.

Here's just a sampling of what's in store:
