Welcome to CREATIVE EDITIONS: A new and exciting way to collect Art from Argyle Fine Art

At Argyle Fine Art, we're  always looking for ways to educate people and develop art appreciation for our local artists in our community. We are pleased to present CREATIVE EDITIONS - a new, fun and affordable way to collect very limited and very special edition prints of works by twelve Nova Scotia artists. Operating on the model of a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) or wine subscription service, CREATIVE EDITIONS offers amazing original works of art instead of vegetables or wine. Imagine how much fun it will be to receive a new work by a new artist each month!

Subscribers can choose to order a 12 month or 6 month subscription. Subscribers will receive a new work  by a different local artist each month. Subscriptions are $120/ per 12month subscription for pick-up or $195/ year including postage within Canada and the United States(+plus applicable taxes). Subscriptions are $75/ per six month subscription or $115/ 6 six month subscription including shipping. Alternate rates can be made available for International orders on a case-by-case basis.

Each limited edition print will be printed on archival fine art paper, measuring 6" x 9" , and will be printed professionally by Eric Boutilier-Brown Photography here in Nova Scotia. Each work will be signed by the artist and will also include an artist's bio along with it.. The works selected for each print will be made by Argyle Fine Art, which will include never seen works by the artists. These works will only be available to subscription members. The limited editions will be numbered, signed by hand, and released on the 15th of each month, beginning on August 15th, 2014.
CREATIVE EDITIONS allows subscribers to receive high quality works, worth much more than the subscription cost. This gives local artists exposure, and helps support the arts and artists in Nova Scotia! Join today!

Call or email us ASAP to confirm your subscription and be part of the beginning of CREATIVE EDITIONS - first limited edition piece will be launched on August 15th. Phone 902-425-9456 or gallery@argylefa.com  We can receive payment via PAYPAL, or over the phone/in-person with Visa, Mastercard or Debit.

Questions and Answers  Section  (if you have additional questions, feel free to contact us directly)

Q: What do the prints measure?

A: All works  are 6" x 9" , prints on paper, and are limited edition prints, signed by the artist featured.

Q: Do all subscribers receive the same thing?

A: Each month everyone will receive the same limited edition per month regardless of when you begin your subscription. Additional prints may be available at the end of the year, to anyone that only began the subscription part of the way through the year or to a subscriber who may want to collect more than one edition of the same piece.

Q: Can I pick a particular artist?

A: No, you can’t pick an artist. We'll be highlighting an artist to feature each month- which will remain a secret until all subscribers have been notified. All artists selected for this project will be artists shown at Argyle Fine Art.

Q: How many months do I have to subscribe?

A: You must subscribe to either the 6 month or 12 month subscription term.

Q: What if I live far away from Halifax, Nova Scotia?

A: No problem. Select the shipping subscription which includes the cost of postage within Canada.

Q: Where do I pick up my CREATIVE EDITIONS (without the shipping option)?

A: Pick up your CREATIVE EDITIONS on the 15th of each month at Argyle Fine Art located at 1559 Barrington Street, Halifax, NS during normal business hours (Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5:30pm).

Q: Can I give CREATIVE EDITIONS as a gift?

A:Yes! CREATIVE EDITIONS makes a wonderful gift for anniversaries, weddings, birthdays, housewarming gifts, etc.

Q: Can I start my subscription at any time?

A: Yes, you may begin your subscription at anytime. Each monthly edition will be made ready on the 15th of each month.

Q:Can I get a Refund on my Subscription?

A: The subscription is final sale, however should you decide that you no longer want to receive the art to finish out your subscription, we suggest that you re-direct your subscription to someone you know that may enjoy it.

Q: Do I have to pay tax?

A: Yes- however if we are shipping the works out of the province of Nova Scotia or out of Canada, different tax rates apply.

Q: This sounds like a great deal. Are there any more incentives?

A: We will include one EXTRA print  to all of our 12 month subscribers at the end of the year, as a special thank you for your support! This will bring the total limited edition prints for yearly subscribers to 13. You will also all have the chance to view and purchase the ORIGINAL painting or drawing that the limited edition was made from, at the time of picking up your prints at Argyle Fine Art. We hope to have an evening when you can also meet the artists- still to be determined.

Q: How do I find out when my CREATIVE EDITIONS print is available? Or about special events for subscribers?

A: We'll send you a monthly email newsletter that gives you the exclusive scoop, featured artist exhibits, and such. Of course, you can always opt out if you do not want to receive the newsletter.

Q: What if I don’t like my piece?

A: Art is subjective and although we believe that all the artwork we send out is great, you may enjoy some pieces more than others - this is part of the fun, when learning to appreciate the broad range of local artistic styles!  Even if you do not like something, the amount of money spent on CREATIVE EDITIONS is so minimal, your subscription will be well worth your money spent. You are not able to exchange this print for another or postpone for an extension for another month. If you don't like the work given on a particular month, you might consider giving it to someone as a gift!

Q: I really like this idea and your artists. How can I keep abreast of what is going on with your artists?

A: Join our email list for updates on shows, special events or specific artist's works.Just tell us you'd like to be added to our list and we'll make it so!

CANADIANA!! Featuring Kas Stone and Sarah Jones

One of the many benefits to our group shows, is that we get to sample the exciting range of artists creating artwork within our region. It's our opportunity to make new connections, with artists outside those whom we showcase regularly. The list of artists participating in our current group show about Canadian Culture is outstanding, and Kas Stone and Sarah Jones are perfect examples of fresh faces whom we're delighted to have made connections with!!

Kas Stone speaks about her work:

This image depicts the vastness and diversity of the Canadian landscape, united by a compelling cloud formation. The triptych’s three segments were created from a compilation of photographs taken in British Columbia (the mountains along Howe Sound and English Bay), Toronto (the city skyline from the Toronto Islands) and Nova Scotia (a view of Cape Smokey on Cape Breton’s Cabot Trail), representing archetypal western, central and eastern scenery. The magnificent unifying cloud was captured during a storm on Newfoundland’s Trout River Pond, and enhanced (only slightly) to stretch across the entire panel – like the jet stream that generates the weather patterns all Canadians love to talk about. The title adds interesting layers of extra meaning, depending upon how the viewer chooses to interpret it.

Sarah Jones speaks about her work:
Sarah Jones, No. 53 Mixed Media on Canvas 36" x 60"

"I studied the idea of Canadiana and Canadian identity while in university, particularly the role of the Group of Seven in contributing to the idea of wilderness and the Great White North. My work (humbly) is a response to the Group of Seven and wilderness mythology from someone who lives in a gritty, urban, port city. Amid the abundance of nature imagery, I hope my work clamours to make the point: Canadians live in cities too!"

HIGH NOON at NOON: One last piece and a ROUND-UP!

Well, the HIGH NOON at NOON was a bit inconsistent this July, ,but nevertheless great art found great new homes, so mission accomplished! We have one last HIGH NOON at NOON painting on offer today, which features the very textural, sculptural paintings of Jennifer Harrison.

Today's HIGH NOON at NOON is called "Four Brick Houses" and measures 18" x 24", oil on canvas by Jennifer Harrison. Jennifer moved to Nova Scotia a few years ago from Ontario after falling in love with the province on a brief trip to Lunenburg! We're delighted she did, as we enjoy her artwork so much in our gallery.  This work was painted in 2008 and has been a favourite for many people throughout it's years.

Until end of day tomorrow ,  this work is priced at $895. After that time, it will go back to it's original price of $1200

Because we were late posting many of our HIGH NOON at NOON features, as well as plagued by various storm systems and power outages for many of clients...we are offering the below remaining HIGH NOON at NOON pieces at the HIGH NOON price until end of day tomorrow as well. Take a look through and find a special piece at a special PRICE.

HIGH NOON at NOON #11- Colleen MacIsaac

"Dear Anita..."

(That's a little inside joke going out to a great supporter of our gallery who has noticed we've fallen behind on our HIGH NOON at NOON features...but also understands why! :-)  Thank goodness!)

It's been a busy few days at the gallery, preparing for the DOWNTOWN ARTWALK, which happened last night despite the rain we saw about 100 people or more out enjoying over 25 art galleries and shops. We also opened up a new show, CANADIANA -come and see it!

Anyway...without further adieu ...our HIGH NOON at NOON..but actually far far later....

WELCOME TO OUR  continuing  bi-yearly event, HIGH NOON at NOON where we feature ONE piece of art at HIGH NOON that is priced at a special price but for just 24 hours! The works selected for these days, are works that the gallery and artist that created them feel is some of their best works...but haven't found a home yet. We'd like to introduce you to these works and hope that some of them find a home with you.

Our HIGH NOON feature is an original ink and watercolour piece by Colleen MacIssac. This work was from a group show called Urban Legends that  we hosted a few years ago now, waaaay back in 2009. This piece is called "Bloody Mary" and measures 15" x 11.5" and is simply framed in a black frame.  It makes everyone smile...while illustrating this popular urban myth.

Until HIGH NOON on Sunday, July 20th, this work is priced at $150.  After that time, it will go back to it's original price of $300.

This work is one of the first we ever received by the emerging artist a few years back now. His works are painted with acrylic and resin on board, so as you can imagine...very hard to photograph. Hence, we've done our best! But we should tell you this is a stunning piece in person..vibrant and full of colour and texture!  It's called "2635 Fuller Terrace and measures 11.5" x 36".

HIGH NOON at NOON #4-Bryanna Chapeskie

WELCOME TO OUR  continuing  bi-yearly event, HIGH NOON at NOON where we feature ONE piece of art at HIGH NOON that is priced at a special price but for just 24 hours! The works selected for these days, are works that the gallery and artist that created them feel is some of their best works...but haven't found a home yet. We'd like to introduce you to these works and hope that some of them find a home with you.

Today's HIGH NOON featured work is by artist Bryanna Chapeskie and is called "Barefoot Ballet II", measures 12" x 12" and is watercolour on paper. It's a childhood dream of a piece, harkening to a time less complicated. Depending on your age dear reader, it reminds me of the textural/puppet/drawings/photography from the Little Golden Books of the past, where the characters were very three dimensional and almost lept from the pages of the books. This work has so much narrative- awaiting you to tell the fairytale it evokes in your own words. This piece is great for anyone that appreciates fine illustration, watercolour, papercraft and is a child at heart!

Until tomorrow at HIGH NOON, this work is priced at $175.   After that time, it will go back to it's original price of $300.

HIGH NOON at NOON #3-MARK BRENNAN ( a bit earlier today to make up for lost power during Tropical Storm Arthur)

Today's HIGH NOON featured work is by artist Mark Brennan and is called "The Remote Cabin, Tipover Lake;  Cape Breton Highlands National Park. This work measures 11 3/4" x 8 7/8" Oil on Board,  as was painted in 2010.It is framed in a simple black frame and is ready for hanging.

It's a very rare scene, as Mark Brennan almost never includes any signs of human inhabitants in his paintings. This is an actual cabin located in the Highlands of Cape Breton, where Mark has spent time painting and enjoying the great outdoors. This painting is very colourful and also reminds each of us how important it is to "get away from it all", for just a little while. Do you have a special place you visit to escape and retreat?

SOLD

Until tomorrow at HIGH NOON, this work is priced at $350.   After that time, it will go back to it's original price of $450

PS- Mark Brennan will be launching a solo show of very exciting works at Argyle Fine Art this November. Stay tuned for details!

HIGH NOON at NOON #2- July Edition: Gordon MacDonald

Greetings Everyone! Each January and July we do annual inventory at Argyle Fine Art, and come across works that have been living at the gallery for quite some time but are wonderful!

So, from now until July 14th,  we are continuing our HIGH NOON at NOON where we feature ONE piece of art at HIGH NOON that is priced at a special price but for just 24 hours! The works selected for these days, are works that the gallery and artist that created them feel is some of their best works...but haven't found a home yet. We'd like to introduce you to these works and hope that some of them find a home with you.

Today's HIGH NOON featured work is by artist Gordon MacDonald and is called "Fearan Chierstedville" which translates from Gaelic to English to "Kiersteadville, New Brunswick."

This work measures 11" x 14, Oil on Board,  as was originally painted in 2005 and then revisited again in 2008 and then again some time after that. What changed? Subtle things mostly, the sky became brighter and the tones warmer. This piece glows and has been a favourite of ours for years! The clouds look as if they will float out of the painting and into your living room.

It is framed in a simply charcoal frame in good condition, measuring approximately 2.5" wide, making the framed dimensions of the work 15.5" x 18.5" .

SOLD
Until tomorrow at HIGH NOON, this work is priced at $575.   After that time, it will go back to it's original price of $750

**Yesterday's HIGH NOON (Stuart Melanson's Sunflower is still available at the HIGH NOON Price, due to the fact most of us didn't have power to access our website and blog Saturday afternoon! See on July 4th entry below**

HIGH TIME for ART at HIGH NOON- July Edition: Stuart Melanson

Greetings Everyone! Each January and July we do annual inventory at Argyle Fine Art, and come across works that have been living at the gallery for quite some time but are wonderful!

So, from now until July 14th,  we'll once again be doing HIGH NOON at NOON...where we will be featuring ONE piece of art at HIGH NOON that will be priced at a special price but for just 24 hours! The works selected for these days, are works that the gallery and artist that created them feel is some of their best works...but haven't found a home yet. We'd like to introduce you to these works and hope that some of them find a home with you. We were going to begin tomorrow (July 5th)  but because many of our art collectors may find themselves without power, we decided to start a day early!

We thought we'd start with a very timely painting, as the sunflowers are starting to bloom and standing tall in gardens. We pray for the sunflowers tomorrow, and hope they can weather the storm but this painting below is lush and vibrant and ready to bring happiness to your home or office.

Today's HIGH NOON featured work is by self-taught artist STUART MELANSON and is called "Sundown-Sunflower" This work is painted with acrylic on wide profile canvas (ready to hang as-is;  no frame included but would be easy to frame as you like) and measures 36" x 24".    This work was painted in 2012 and has had many admirers, but still remains here.

SOLD
Until tomorrow at HIGH NOON, this work is priced at $585.  After that time, it will go back to it's original price of $850.

HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS for us Maritimers and Beyond

This blog posting goes out to all of us that may find ourselves in the path of Tropical Storm/Hurricane Arthur. Sounds like a pretty polite sort of guy, doesn't he...let's hope Arthur behaves himself!

But it never hurts to prepare for lots of wind and rain and the possibility of power outages and the like, so here are some very ARTFUL ideas for such events!

For starters, you're going to want to have an alternate light source once the lights start flickering and power is uncertain. May we suggest a very beautiful Sculptural Spheres by Karolina Anna- Hajna.  These works of art look wonderful anytime, as ceramic sculptures, but also work well as beautiful light sources. All you need are a few tea lights, then sit back and enjoy!

The small ones are priced at $95 and the larger ones are $150. They also make wonderful wedding gifts and come in many different colours. Karolina Anna-Hajna is also bringing us some new jewellery pieces, opening on July 19th...stay tuned for updates about that soon on this blog!

Ok...so now we've got your light source, but you'll need to keep entertained. So, we'd like to suggest some FOLD-EDs by Ed Beals.  We have so many different types of FOLD-EDs, so it's best to come and see for yourself.  All of them are very easy to make with just a bit of patience, some scissors and some glue or tape. Kids love them..but also kids at heart!

Each FOLD-ED is just $8 each...FUN and AFFORDABLE and by a local artist!

Another very important thing to have on hand throughout any storm, are some snacks. Here in Nova Scotia, they are lovingly referred to as #Stormchips .  Although we don't sell chips to eat, we certainly have a great selection of artworks inspired by food that comforts. Take this delicious plate of french fries by George Spencer, for example. Mmmm....

It's also important to remember to gather all your loved ones and pets too...make sure to gather the cats and the dogs and any other critters that need protecting from the elements. That reminds me of this AMAZING PAINTING by Gordon MacDonald called "Saint Poopee:The Patron Saint of Strawberries" .  Awww!! You should gather it into your home.  He will provide a lifetime of happiness and he's already house-trained!

Stay safe inside your homes and take care of one another!

Homes- Miniature 3-dimensional homes by Bryanna Chapeskie (paper, watercolour, ink)
AND IF YOU HAVE POWER, that's a perfect time to visit this blog again as we'll be launching our HIGH NOON AT NOON events beginning on Saturday, July 5th (that's where we feature a great piece of artwork that we've had for some time and hightlight it at a very special price, but only for 24 hours!)

Remember you can also shop ONLINE at our ONLINE SHOP (the link to the shop is on our main page of this blog as well...)

Keep your feet on the ground. Don't even attempt to use an umbrella in Halifax-(seriously...you could blow away.)  Visit us often in person or online anytime!
