Dusan Postolovic Serves up the "The Day's Catch"

We're excited to introduce you to an exciting new body of work by gallery newcomer Dusan Postolovic!  "The Day's Catch" will be Dusan's first solo exhibition at Argyle Fine Art. Originally from Vancouver BC, Dusan has been a Halifax resident for 3 years.  You may be familiar with Dusan's intricate coloured pencil drawings as he has regularly contributed to past group shows in recent years.

"The Day's Catch" represents 14 new original artworks which opens officially on July 30th!

Despite dabbling in all different forms of visual arts, Dusan has always gravitated toward drawing and colored pencil work. He has found inspiration for his early works in cartoons, nature books, television shows and the world around him.

This current body of work is a collection of some of Dusan's favorite sea life that he has always wanted to capture in colored pencil drawings. The Cotton Candy Lobster (for example) is one of the worlds' rarest varieties (about 1 in a million!). Here's a sneak peak from the upcoming show;

We hope you get a chance and drop by to see the show and meet the artist this Friday, July 30th, 4:30-6:30pm. You're really going to want to see these amazing artworks in person!

Inspiration for Intricate Art from Simple Things

We opened up our email this week to the below message from embroidery artist Yoko White. All of these pieces are created using a technique called french knots.

Very time consuming and requiring a great amount of patience! All we can say, is WOW.

I started making these on February 14, 2021

I think it was recorded as one of the coldest days.

My bedroom window has a small crack but it made for  really pretty frost patterns on the pane of glass.

I know I should fix or replace it.
Maybe someday.

-YOKO WHITE

You have to see these in person to truly appreciate them! We are so very very lucky to have so many talented artists living amoung us, even that of Jack Frost in wintertime. Thanks to all that appreciate and support visual arts and cultural talents of all sorts!

In addition to these works, Yoko also made three Nova Scotia themed works that look as if they are Wax Seals. Which one is your favourite? We can't decide but they are all filled with Nova Scotia pride!  We hope to make some postcards from them too! Art and the beautiful places to visit all around, we believe to be  Nova Scotia's most valuable assets.

OUTDOOR ARTWORK you can BRING INSIDE!

Howdy everyone and happy rainy Friday! We thought we'd take a moment to remind you all to check out our POSTER POLE GALLERY that is on-going right now until mid-August. Have you heard of it?

Since the beginning of June, we've been bringing art to the utility poles all along Barrington Street! Utility poles that were once filled to the brim with posters advertising upcoming events that have been left empty lately, due to Covid-19 restrictions.

SEE ALL THE POSTERS ONLINE HERE AND FIND OUT HOW TO WIN ART PRIZES

We've received some amazing art so far, and are still looking for submissions inspired by the art of the gig poster to bring an open-air art gallery for all to enjoy and brighten up downtown. We've really enjoyed watching people discover them and all the smiles! YAY! Art has the power!

Various amazing posters out in the wild!

Some of the posters were so popular that there was public outcry to have them printed as posters available for purchase. So we decided to print the one below by artist Michael Browne of the Super Mario inspired Halifax vs Dartmouth.

We still have a few of these available- they measure 11" x 17" and are $25 each. They look great framed too....we picked up some inexpensive frames at Michael's the other day to show you how lovely it is.

New to the poles this week is this amazing poster designed by Dusan Postolovic of the popular noon gun BOOM of Halifax and we loved the neon vibes so much that we printed a limited supply of these now available! This is also 11" x 17", $25 each. COME AND GET IT! These are easy to ship and look ohhhhhh so slick in the black frame! A great contemporary souvenir of your trip to Halifax  for locals and those abroad!

Actually Dusan designed two other posters throughout the duration of this project and we are taking orders to reproduce these two shown below as well. Get in touch if you are interested in owning all three. Each poster will be the same size (11x17 inches), high quality paper, $25 each.

Artist Kerry Hodgson created not only a poster for the POSTER POLE GALLERY but a line drawing too! We printed a few of these too, that you can buy for just $8 and colour up as you like. Get creative!  Such a lovely message on this one too...HAPPY ART DISCOVERING!
