Get Rewarded with our new "Art with Benefits" Rewards Program and more!

New Year's Resolution: BUY LOCAL ART

So often when people visit our gallery from away, they comment on how unique it is from other galleries and people are always surprised to learn that everything is made in the province with few exceptions. Locally, sometimes we take businesses for granted but we employ you to not do this! Downtown businesses need you more than ever and art may not seem like a necessity but even the smallest purchase of a card and the like, can make all the difference to us and you- ART has been proven to make people happier. :-)
We challenge you to visit more often in 2017 and bring friends with you! In fact, we're beginning an ART with BENEFITS reward program. For each accumulated $300 spent (before tax, excluding already reduced items and services) we'll reward you with 5% credit (i.e For every $300 you'll receive $15 credit) which you can use towards your next purchase or save up to use towards a larger purchase within the calendar year. Bring a friend to the gallery! If they purchase a work, you'll earn an additional bonus too! Just ask us to sign you up!
Another exciting development for 2017:
Join our ART INVESTMENT CLUB where you invest in our local artists and get first choice from the exhibits throughout the year!

This idea is pretty simple and began with a few of our clients doing just this regardless of the program. In a nut shell, "investors" are paying for a painting that is in the making for an upcoming exhibit by a specific artist. You pay whatever amount you'd like to invest, with a savings of 2% as our thank you to you (ie $1000 value for $980 investment) but also get to select the work by your artist of choice before any other collectors or the public sees the works- (maximum of 3 investors per artist).

So if you know you love a particular artist's work, and would be buying anyway, why not consider this as an option. It's a great way support the continued creation of art, you save money and get the art you love!
REMEMBER THAT UNTIL THE END OF DECEMBER, we are offering 20% off most works and 50% off selected CHRISTMAS CARDS!

We are OPEN December 30th, 10am-5:30pm and December 31st 10am-2pm Opening Regular Business Hours January 3rd

...going to the Birds!

Well artist Kim Danio has gone and done it again....she's created little masterpieces from used shoes! In the case of this series of "The 12 Days of Christmas" ornaments, she has brought the popular song to life with all sorts of birds that are ready to hang on your tree or hang around the home throughout the entire year. They are really just too cute to put away, don't you think?  Each of these works are just $65 too!

So we all probably know how this song goes but just in case, let's SHOW you...

On the first day, there was a Partridge in a Pear Tree! That just goes without saying...

On the second day, there were Two Turtle Doves....cooo cooo....aren't they lovely!

On the third day, there were Three French Hens...bok bok bok

And we mustn't forget the 6 Geese a Laying....A Canadian Goose of course!

Fast forwarding through the song just a bit, we reach the part where this kind person buys their friend seven swans a swimming....seems like a rather odd gift choice. We think this ornament/sculpture would suit better....:-)

Anyway, as you well imagine the song goes on and on, but instead we thought we'd just share a few more works by Kim that we adore that are also birds and also just $65!

Happy Holidays from all of us to all of you!

Tinker Toys

Today we're sharing with you our "tinker toys", amazingly clever fun gifts made by our tinkerers', Ed Beals and William Rudolph.

If you're familiar with the gallery you've likely seen a ray-gun or two or Ed's kicking around (though not for long as they are happily snapped up by ray-gun enthusiasts). Ed recently brought in his latest creation, The Collector.

"The Collector" by Ed Beals, Reclaimed Parts

The Collector travels around collecting bits and scraps he can put into his trusty removable backpack!

Here's a little turnaround video of The Collector that Ed put together so you can see just how fantastic he is: The Collector Turnaround Video

From Mr William Rudolph, or Rudy, the master of bike parts, we have a few fun new pieces. First up, for the cyclist on your list who has everything... a trophy made of bike parts? A trophy made of bike parts! It even has a handy blank plaque on the front that's perfect for engraving whatever award you feel like bestowing!

But alas, if you're looking for a more practical assembled bike part piece, Rudy has you covered. How about a Rotating Shimano Candle Holder for those stormy nights when the power is out?

Maybe you're looking for something to spruce up the dinner table for your holiday feast? How about a napkin holder made of assembled bike parts?

Or how about two napkin holders? One for each set of napkins -  for those on the nice list and for those on the naughty list?

Pop in soon to check out these great pieces before they find ho-ho-homes for the holidays!

Don't forget that on Saturday, Dec 16th we'll have our friends from the Halifax Cat Rescue Society here from 1-4PM and the East Coast Carollers will be gracing us with their lovely voices from 2-3PM. Also, cider and cookies!

Sending you all a big dose of holiday cheer until next time!

GIVING to Others- It's a Beautiful thing!

We just wanted to write a quick thank-you to everyone that helped donate to the Navigator Outreach Program this holiday season! With your help we were able to gather together a great amount of useful items for the colder months ahead.

We also have a heart warming story, shared by one of our friends of the gallery read on:

"I wanted to include my two grandchildren Lahna and William and to have them involved and see how they can help others less fortunate. They went shopping with me and picked up the items and I was amazed how they really  put a lot of thought into  the items they choose. They were excited to deliver them to you. They both proudly spoke in their classroom about it!"

For those of you that are interested in finding out more about what this amazing group does for many homeless folks who find themselves on our streets, we hope to do another info session in the Spring and do another gathering of gifts for those in need. Happy Holidays everyone! Remember to GIVE back whenever you have an opportunity to do so. Just the simplest things make all the difference.

NEW WORKS that have just arrived in time for the Holidays!

Greetings everyone!  We know many of our readers live at a distance and perhaps can't make it into the gallery, which is why we have just posted a great selection of works that are still available and have just arrived in time for holiday giving! Of course to see any other works by our gallery artists, you can always click on their names from the main page of this blog on the left hand side...We always showcase the newest works by each artist at the beginning of their pages for your convenience. Happy Arting!

So that's enough rambling....let's start showing you some art by our amazingly talented artists...

First up, a few stunning MARK BRENNAN paintings. To see MORE works by Mark CLICK HERE

Then we received some tiny watercolours by Michelle St-Onge, all wonderfully priced and framed in a simple white frame ready for giving. These would be perfect for a nursery or family room! There are a few unframed too...just get in touch if you'd like us to send you pictures of those too (one is of seals and one is of winter bird)

Of course there are always new works arriving by probably one of the hardest working artists of Halifax, Gordon MacDonald. These three works all measure 12" x 12" and are painted on gold leaf.

And of course, no holiday would be complete without adding a little creature made from a show by Kim Danio!  Here are just a few of the critters...but there are many more which you can see by

Two stunning new works by self-taught artist George Spencer have arrived just in time. Nothing says holiday nostaligia as oranges and clementines...and wine.

Another great still-life artists with a very unique approach named Briana Corr-Scott brought us some beautiful new works, but here's just one of our favourites!  Isn't it beautiful?  You can see MORE OF Briana's artwork by CLICKING HERE.

We have a few other works by Kim you can see over HERE  (note the Chicken Bones painting is sold, but we do have postcards which make a lovely touch in a small frame or sent in the mail)

Some beautiful new works by Jan Davison arrived too!  They are inspired by her jogs and runs around the Point Pleasant Park here in Halifax...but they could be trees almost anywhere. We love this grouping, however they are strong paintings would do well each on their own too...See MORE WORK by Jan by Clicking HERE

Our very own staff member, Caitlin McGuire was sure to get one final work to us before the New Year....and we couldn't be happier with it...it's called "Let Sleeping Cats Lie"   See more works by Caitlin HERE

Here's a  small work by Katharine Burns that would be welcomed under just about any tree this holiday season we suspect....A few more works by Katharine can be seen HERE too....

And finally two new works by Andy MacDonald...that reminds us that HOME is wherever we feel secure and comfy. Andy's Halifax homes are filled with glowing warm lights that make lots of hearts happy! See MORE WORK by Andy by Clicking HERE.
