Well...that was FUN! STARRY NIGHT GALLERY HOP!
Last night many of the Halifax galleries stayed open until 9pm and encouraged folks to come out to visit us all on a self-guided tour of art and fun happenings! We were delighted to see some new faces and lots of smiles at the second STARRY NIGHT ART HOP!
At Argyle Fine Art, we highlighted the latest show by Jack Ross, still here until May 6th as well as many other new works by gallery artists.
We invited artists Kerry Hodgson, Craig Gunn and Chantel Elysia to an art challenge! We provided the canvas, paint and supplies and asked them to paint LIVE during the evening, but 30 minutes into their painting process we asked them to pick two kitchen utensils from a box and use them to paint with!
The results were amazing and so fun to watch! Creativity really blossoms when you change the way you work, ever so slightly and work with what you have.Who would have thought a pizza cutter could make for such a great art tool?

Craig Gunn ready to make a masterpiece...using a strainer & a martini strainer? |
There were many laughs and visitors throughout the evening! THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU! And if you missed this art hop, watch out the next one...we're all planning another soon!
Half way through the creative process, we asked the artists to switch stations and painting on each other's paintings....eeeck.....that time was tense but interesting to see how each artist made their own marks.
Below are the FINAL PAINTINGS. They are each now for SALE for a donation of $50 each, with the money going to the artist's charity of choice!
Let us know if you'd like to make one of these yours and of course you are more than welcome to offer more per piece as that will benefit the charities more but not required!:-) Every little bit helps those in need! Email or phone us to make a purchase/donation.:-)

Earth Day: The Earth is Laughing in Flowers!
"Earth laughs in flowers."-Ralph Waldo Emerson, Hamatreya
The flowers are blooming, the Earth must be laughing! The past week has shown that Spring is truly here in Halifax! It is undeniable the difference the singing birds, buds on the trees, and cycles of new growth make.
We have decided to put together a collection of works, new and old, that capture the feelings of flourishing life all around us. There is so much to celebrate about this time of the year. Each of these works is a mini celebration in itself of the possibilities of the Earth in Spring time. Please take a long look, and stretch out your branches! The sun is shining, and the Earth loves when you laugh along with it!

Come Out of the FOG!
It's finally that time of year again to get outside and start walking around your community. Breathe in the fresh Spring air and enjoy all the beautiful sights of the city of Halifax, both new and old!
One artist who has become quite familiar with the city on foot is Jack Ross! We are super excited to announce the opening of the first full solo show of the season - FOG! This show features a collection of 19 all new paintings by Jack that capture magical moments of light and shadow on the city streets!
Many of these scenes take place on foggy nights! Fog may seem like an odd topic to centre a show on, but it can be quite fascinating when you look a bit closer! In Atlantic Canada we are very used to the fog, but there are some parts of the world where it has never been experienced. Jack has managed to find the beauty and mystery in the fog, and has brought it to new life with this stunning collection of paintings.
You may recognize some of the locations in these paintings, and some may be completely new to you! That is the wonder of Jack's painting process, as things in Halifax are always changing, these paintings truly become a unique glimpse into a moment of time in the city.
So please join us as we journey on through the fog - there is so much to be discovered on every corner!
Come by the gallery before May 6th to see this spectacular show in person! If you can't make it down, you can always see the full show online here: FOG by Jack Ross
