Bringing back SUNDAY STUDIO DAYS! - Sabine Kearns & Matthew Mongraw

Welcome once again to our Sunday Studio Days series!

This series will feature different artists and their creative spaces every Sunday! It's so wonderful to see behind the scenes what our artists get up to, where they create and learn a little more about who they are!

We're starting off with two wonderful acrylic painters, Sabine Kearns and Matthew Mongraw.

SABINE KEARNS

A beautifully beaming Sabine standing at her easel ready to paint!

"When I walk up the stairs to my studio, I immediately feel a sense of calm! I’m fortunate to have this space, where I can create, make a mess, and just lose myself in my art.  From my window, I love seeing the crows gather in the big trees, and the sound of the brook after the rain! Time seems to have no meaning when I’m painting, and before I know it, several hours have gone by, and my sweet husband pops in with a cup of tea!"

Sabine's easel and a collection of her works.
Looks like a little Seagull friend also enjoys this studio space!

"My inspiration comes from my surroundings. I take many, many reference photos, but quite often my paintings come from a memory or a feeling, of something that I briefly saw and felt, or a place visited. I’d describe my art as simplistic, happy, and heartfelt!"

A cozy spot to sit during painting breaks.

"I have always dreamt of having my art in a gallery, so when this dream came true with Argyle Fine Art, I’d say it was one of my favourite accomplishments! Thank you, Adriana! I still do happy dances of joy every single time a painting finds a new home, and I think I always will! Knowing that I’ve made a connection through my art, is a wonderful feeling!"

MATTHEW MONGRAW

Matthew posed in front of a collection of his works

Matthew says his paintings are inspired by places, moments and people that bring him joy!

A shot of Matthew's studio, he always has something on the go!

Another shot of Matthew's studio... whose that hiding in the corner?🐶

One of those joy-bringers in his Bermese Mountain dog, Bowie! Matthew says his pup never leaves his side...  "[Bowie] loves hanging out with me when I paint so I have to clean my studio space thoroughly to make sure I don't varnish their fur into my art. It only happened once with an early painting and I pray one day science can use that to clone them."

Outside of painting Matthew also has a passion for music!

Matthew rocking out!

"I have played music extensively for over 25 years. I like to write and perform with a number of different bands as well as my own music. Drums are my main instrument but also enjoy guitar, bass and piano.

The vibes are right and Matthew is ready to play!

Music has helped me understand painting by seeing the similarities between writing a song vs a painting. Such as the mood or intensity, the rhythms, if it is a cluttered or upbeat piece of music etc."

Diane on her work...
"My artwork is contemporary realism in the old tradition.  I work to create a narrative with the setting or theme in my artwork by utilizing traditional methods while capturing contemporary or antique subject matter...I am inspired by the people around me, the places I have travelled to and the objects in my environment...I wish to be continually inspired by the masters of yesterday and those of today!"

Arielle was rescued about 11 years ago after having been hit by a car resulting in the partial loss of one of her wings. Arielle is now a permanent resident of Hope For Wildlife and she gets to spend her time in their the fabulous care and travel around with volunteers as an educational animal.
