Argyle Fine Art for the GOLD: Still time to VOTE for us online!

Dear Everyone,

We hope you are having a good day and would like to ask you to VOTE for Argyle Fine Art as BEST GALLERY in Halifax, according to The Coast's popular survey.  We have won GOLD in years past, but often the provincial gallery, AGNS, takes all the gold and we're left with SILVER- which we love too...don't get us wrong!  But well, we just really love gold so with your click of a button on our behalf, perhaps it will be possible this year! The VOTING ENDS on September 30th, so the time is NOW!

If you are able to spend a few moments, head on over to this LINK: http://thecoast.secondstreetapp.com/l/BOH2014  and while you're there, you can VOTE for some of your other favourite Halifax locations- restaurants, musicians, barbers and more!

With great thanks and appreciation,

Adriana and Crystal

THIS FRIDAY! Opening Reception for MARY GAROUTTE and CAITLIN MCGUIRE!

You're all invited to the opening reception for new works by Mary Garoutte and Caitlin McGuire this Friday, September 19th, 7-9pm!

The show will continue until October 11th and will be online for viewing as well, once the show has opened.

Mary Garoutte has exhibited at Argyle Fine Art twice before, and has a growing number of fans of her work. Mary is particularly pleased with this body of work called "Something Red" as it continues her exploration of Halifax's historic Hydrostone District. The works are larger and painted with even looser paint application that in past years. It's so exciting to watch this talented young painter grow. Her ability to capture the city and her sense of light has had some of our clients comparing her works to that of Mark Grantham- a local established artist working in Halifax.

Caitlin McGuire is still studying at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD University) We are very excited to introduce you to this new artist and her sense of style and colour and pure joy! Caitlin's paintings also explore the city of Halifax, in her show called "Port City." Caitlin is also our featured artist for September's Creative Editions.

Previews are available at request.***

TIME TO SUBSCRIBE IS NOW! Here's a video from this morning's GLOBAL NEWS interview about the project:

Operating on the model of a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) or wine subscription service, CREATIVE EDITIONS offers amazing original works of art instead of vegetables or wine. Imagine how much fun it will be to receive a new work by a new artist each month!

Subscribers can choose to order a 12 month or 6 month subscription. Subscribers will receive a new work  by a different local artist each month. Each limited edition print will be printed on archival fine art paper, measuring 6" x 9" , and will be printed professionally by Eric Boutilier-Brown Photography here in Nova Scotia. Each work will be signed by the artist and will also include an artist's bio along with it.. The works selected for each print will be made by Argyle Fine Art, which will include never seen works by the artists. These works will only be available to subscription members. The limited editions will be numbered, signed by hand, and released on the 15th of each month, beginning on August 15th, 2014.

Questions and Answers  Section  (if you have additional questions, feel free to contact us directly)

Q: What do the prints measure?

A: All works  are 6" x 9" , prints on paper, and are limited edition prints, signed by the artist featured.

Q: Do all subscribers receive the same thing?

A: Each month everyone will receive the same limited edition per month regardless of when you begin your subscription. Additional prints may be available at the end of the year, to anyone that only began the subscription part of the way through the year or to a subscriber who may want to collect more than one edition of the same piece.

Q: Can I pick a particular artist?

A: No, you can’t pick an artist. We'll be highlighting an artist to feature each month- which will remain a secret until all subscribers have been notified. All artists selected for this project will be artists shown at Argyle Fine Art.

Q: How many months do I have to subscribe?

A: You must subscribe to either the 6 month or 12 month subscription term.

Q: What if I live far away from Halifax, Nova Scotia?

A: No problem. Select the shipping subscription which includes the cost of postage within Canada.

Q: Where do I pick up my CREATIVE EDITIONS (without the shipping option)?

A: Pick up your CREATIVE EDITIONS on the 15th of each month at Argyle Fine Art located at 1559 Barrington Street, Halifax, NS during normal business hours (Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5:30pm).

Q: Can I give CREATIVE EDITIONS as a gift?

A:Yes! CREATIVE EDITIONS makes a wonderful gift for anniversaries, weddings, birthdays, housewarming gifts, etc.

Q: Can I start my subscription at any time?

A: Yes, you may begin your subscription at anytime. Each monthly edition will be made ready on the 15th of each month.

Q:Can I get a Refund on my Subscription?

A: The subscription is final sale, however should you decide that you no longer want to receive the art to finish out your subscription, we suggest that you re-direct your subscription to someone you know that may enjoy it.

Q: Do I have to pay tax?

A: Yes- however if we are shipping the works out of the province of Nova Scotia or out of Canada, different tax rates apply.

Q: This sounds like a great deal. Are there any more incentives?

A: We will include one EXTRA print  to all of our 12 month subscribers at the end of the year, as a special thank you for your support! This will bring the total limited edition prints for yearly subscribers to 13. You will also all have the chance to view and purchase the ORIGINAL painting or drawing that the limited edition was made from, at the time of picking up your prints at Argyle Fine Art. We hope to have an evening when you can also meet the artists- still to be determined.

Q: How do I find out when my CREATIVE EDITIONS print is available? Or about special events for subscribers?

A: We'll send you a monthly email newsletter that gives you the exclusive scoop, featured artist exhibits, and such. Of course, you can always opt out if you do not want to receive the newsletter.

Q: What if I don’t like my piece?

A: Art is subjective and although we believe that all the artwork we send out is great, you may enjoy some pieces more than others - this is part of the fun, when learning to appreciate the broad range of local artistic styles!  Even if you do not like something, the amount of money spent on CREATIVE EDITIONS is so minimal, your subscription will be well worth your money spent. You are not able to exchange this print for another or postpone for an extension for another month. If you don't like the work given on a particular month, you might consider giving it to someone as a gift!

Q: I really like this idea and your artists. How can I keep abreast of what is going on with your artists?

A: Join our email list for updates on shows, special events or specific artist's works.Just tell us you'd like to be added to our list and we'll make it so!

It's TIME to speak UP about ART: Save The Khyber!

Tonight I'm going to a city meeting and adding my signature to the growing lists, in an effort to save The Khyber from being declared as surplus or sold to developers.  The public meeting is held at the Halifax North Branch Library beginning at 7pm. Drop by and leave your signature- stand up for ART! You can also sign the ONLINE petition HERE if you can't attend in person.

Halifax is facing many economic challenges, not the least being with it's art spaces and art institutions at all levels. As a gallery owner, I face my own woes and know first hand that the arts and culture sector is one of the most vibrant  and greatest assets in Halifax, but also one of the  most under appreciated and  misunderstood sectors by many city officials and business persons.

The Khyber Art Centre is facing the possibility of having to move permanently from it's downtown building.  As with all issues, there many sides to the story, but in my opinion,  I feel it's very important for the community at large to stand behind this building continuing as The Khyber and support the arts!

No question- the place needs lots of work; years of neglect largely being the responsibility of the City of Halifax, has certainly created some financial dilemmas, but it's important to consider the future and The Khyber needs to in that future, as it's a very important and historic part of our downtown art community.

The chance to make this a positive, happy ending is in the hands of the public.Lend The Khyber your signature, your voices, your letters...COME ON HALIFAX! Do the right thing!

If you'd like to read more about The Khyber, go HERE where you can read a series of reports on the continuing saga of this beloved building.
