Birds of a Feather & Blooms All Together

TONIGHT... join the Gallery Hop and give our window display of Dusan's birds a PEEP!
We've made a special interactive display so you too can join the flock!

Our window display featuring Dusan's birds, with QR codes so you can learn & listen.

Last week before mother nature had chance to flex her muscles we held the opening reception for Dusan Postolovic's "Flock Together" bird centric colour pencil show and Raquel Roth's "Bloom" acrylic painting floral show.
We were so pleased that so many folks were able to make it out to the opening even while the weather teased us all day with off and on rain!

Dusan and Raquel discussing their works before the opening.

Dusan's colour pencil flock

Dusan describes his work as a way to "highlight the beauty of nature and wildlife that is all around us". The bird's from his show are collected from neighbourhood encounters while out walking his dog (as well as a few outliers and a sneaky & snoozy raccoon). Dusan hopes that through his detailed colour pencil work he can bring people together both through "a subject matter that everyone can relate to and recognize" and the use of coloured pencils, "as we all have at some point, held a pencil crayon or coloured pencil... and left our mark for someone else to see and enjoy"

Dusan discussing his work with guests at the opening.

A wall of Raquel's Blooms

Raquel is an acrylic based artist inspired by "bold colours and the beauty of natural elements". She uses colour as "creative inspiration for (her) cheerful, bold and whimsical" artwork. Raquel's Bloom show features an assortment of floral images based off bouquet references submitted from local gardens and wedding receptions. Raquel's love for colour and nature informs her inclination towards floral work, where she is able to not only explore the many variations of colour relationships within the floral bouquets but also evoke an emotional response in her audience that is akin to her own joy and love for painting. "It definitely motivates me to keep creating art so that I can share those moments again and again, one painting at a time”.

New Gallery Assistant Just Dropped...

Hello! I'm delighted to introduce myself as Emily Krueckl (she/her), the newly appointed Assistant Gallery Manager at Argyle Fine Art. With a passion for art making, curation and community, I am thrilled to be taking on this position.

Hailing originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, located on Treaty 6 land, I've since made my home in the vibrant artistic city of Halifax, also known as Kjipuktuk, for the last four years. I’ve been a lover of art since early childhood and have always found a way to get my hands on some kind of craft, paint or mark making tool!

I initially started my academic career in Vancouver, BC where I lived and studied interior design at Kwantlen Polytechnic University for four years. There I was exposed to the world of design, aesthetics and functionality. This foundation gave me the tools to explore and expand my personal artistic practice in unique ways I had never experienced before. My passion for creative expression and a deepening love for visual art pushed me to transfer degrees and move from Vancouver to Halifax where I proudly completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at NSCAD in 2021.

Self portrait, colour pencil 2023

Nowadays my art practice consists largely of hand felting, painting and drawing. I am a sucker for portraiture, the expression of mundanity of life and finding different ways to abstract my ideas through my art!
Dubbed the “eyeball girl” in some of my social circles you’ll often find me talking about, sharing or selling my hand felted eyeballs at the occasional market.

As Assistant Gallery Manager at Argyle Fine Art, I am excited to join and contribute to the arts community and connect with fellow artists and art lovers. Come down to the gallery to say hello, or add me on my personal or artpage instagrams, @emnetsia & @lithi.em.art, and send me a message!
I can't wait to get to know you!

Summertime is flying by, but there is still a little time left to cross a few goals off that summer bucket list! Let's spend a summer day and night together and see what we can do! We can't start on the bucket list until we have some energy! What could be a more refreshing summer snack than a peach? Two peaches! Did you know that a Thalassophile is someone who loves the sea, and they are intimately linked to the shoreline and coastal air. So cool!

It is so magical to just sit where the waves meet the shore! Maybe this is exactly what is on your bucket list, and if so, take a peak at the painting by Lynn Johnson below, "Front Row Seat 1"!

While we are at the beach, we must dive in and see what lives beneath the waves! Isn't the painting below, "The Mother" by Caileigh Lambie, absolutely mesmerizing? Just a glimpse into the wonders under the sea!

Catherine Bagnell Styles, Quince & Bottles, Oil on Panel Framed, 8"x10", $585

"Catching Light" is a new show featuring breathtaking still lifes, seascapes and landscapes by Catherine Bagnell Styles! It has been fascinating to see the development of Catherine's work over the years, and "Catching Light" shows the beautiful place Catherine's painting has reached at this moment. Catherine is a Halifax-based artist who loves colour, texture, character, and light in places, people, and her paintings. Her influences include impressionism, fauvism and a number of Canadian artists such as David Lacey, Rod Charlesworth, and Mike Svob.

Catherine Bagnell Styles and a friend at the opening reception!

Catherine paints in an ocean side studio in Ketch Harbour, and en plein air, especially when travelling. Story-telling has found itself into "Catching Light" especially! Take a peak at the painting below, "Papa's Teapot"...The pewter teapot was Catherine's grandfather's.
