HERE WE ARE AGAIN....Update on Gallery Hours & Stuff

Well well well.....here we are again! But at least we are better prepared this time and know how to handle this whole lockdown thing a little better. Of course, we are filled with anxiety and worry like everyone else, and are hoping that these restrictions will be lifted soon, our number of cases go down and we can all get back to doing business as usual. But until then...we wish for you all to stay safe, keep in touch and support local if you are financially able to do so.

Here is a bit of info of our updated hours of operation and protocols and how you can continue to enjoy art from afar and purchase it too! Thanks for supporting local artists and our local business.

Obviously purchasing art online isn't as great as doing it in person. But we can offer virtual tours of the works in the gallery upon request. One-on-one appointments are possible by appointment only, but not for any lengthy browsing -please do that online on our blog here, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. So grab your device and start art looking! Do some art "take-out".

You can spice up your lockdown with these newly added glassware by Jill Babcock. Each glass is engraved by the artist. Only $50 each!

“A little bit about glass engraving! I draw on the glass with marker to place my design. A diamond bit or arkansas stone to place the outline, then onto deep engraving.  Once that is done, the glass is smoothed with other stones and shaded with rubber burrs. The shading brings back the grey scale, the rougher the glass the whiter it looks, the untouched cut glass is the whitest. In the end I place brighter white highlights. So…very much like painting! Only with diamonds!” -Jill Quinn Babcock.

EARTH DAY 2021, Celebrating the Natural World in Art!

For Earth Day we'd like to take a moment to share some of our favorite artworks that celebrate our amazing planet!

RJ Marchand's "Wave" Series was a big hit at this year's Pre-Shrunk exhibition. There's still time to grab some of RJ's remaining pieces like this little gem;

RJ Marchand, "The Swell", 4" x 5", acrylic on board.

Mark Brennan has always been a big nature lover, and an advocate for preserving our provinces natural habitats. His paintings continue to capture the beauty of the Nova Scotia's unique Landscape.

Road Trip Time!

Our current exhibit GET OUTTA TOWN, continues until April 28th and we are delighted with what the artists have put together for all of us to enjoy. It's a rather nostalgic group show, remembering what it feels like to travel to places far but also near-by! Where are you planning on visiting this Summer?

In fact, quite a few of the artworks submitted were inspired by local destinations that many of us living in Atlantic Canada can at still visit (but we miss everyone else and can't wait until you can visit too!)

A new artist to us; Alicia Braganza, approached us with these two similar compositions of driving on a country road, with warm evening sun peeking through the trees and around the bend. This is inspired by her drive with family to a cottage in Amherst, Nova Scotia.

Alicia Braganza, The Road Less Travelled #1, 19.5 diameter, acrylic on canvas

A popular highway to begin your "escape" nearby, is the Highway 103. Here's a lovely painting by Craig Baltzer that captures a mood of the road trip. Maybe heading out to the airport to begin a longer journey or perhaps just heading home from a visit to a near-by park.

Speaking of near by parks, have you travelled to the Thomas Raddall Provincial Park lately? The journey is lovely and once you arrive you are in for a treat! Go for a day trip or if you are lucky, camp for the night. There are lots of cottages for rent along this route too. We LOVE this new painting by Heidi Holloway of the area.

If you walk along the shorelines, make sure to take the time to look into tide pools. There are many inlets and coves to discover like in this painting that almost sparkles in person with sea-life. Just look at the colours and depth in this recent painting by Erin Hollingshead.

Make sure to add some ART to your life this Summer Season and support local culture in the communities you find yourself. Safe Travels!

Seeing Is Believing, Take A Virtual Vacation With Art...

We're taking a virtual vacation this week, as we explore some of the amazing destinations represented in our "Get Outta Town" exhibition. Each artwork from the show was inspired by real places.  Favorite vacation spots and local getaways are all on display for your viewing pleasure. You can also experience the exhibition online HERE

For that exotic getaway, we have this warm and inviting Hawaiian inspired painting by Haley Toll. "Glimmers of the Ocean, Hope Through the Trees", 24" x 36", mixed media on canvas (Left). To the right is an image of the Banyan Tree in Hawaii.

Pat Shattuck introduces us to the Lava Fields in Iceland with this stunning watercolour tribute. Approx. 10.5" x 14.5", framed and ready to hang (Left). Situated along Iceland’s south coast, Eldhraun (Right) is the largest lava flow in the world and one of Iceland’s biggest tourist attractions.

You can explore the wonders of the Mediterranean with this incredible painting by Amy Ordoveza. "View of Dubrovnik" is 5" x 7" gouache on paper. Dubrovnik is a city on the Adriactic Sea in southern Croatia, and is one of the Mediterranean's top tourist destinations, as well as a popular filming location!

Now for something a little closer to home. These two sets of images depict beaches in Nova Scotia.  Craig Gunn's "After the Hike", 18" x 24", acrylic on canvas (Above, Left), depicts the Refugee Cove Trail in Cape Chignecto Provincial Park.

Kelly Mitchelmore's "Relinquish" features the scenic coastal wonders of Bayswater Beach. 11" x 14", acrylic on canvas (left). Bayswater Beach Provincial Park is located in Lunenburg County, along the South Shore.

Our "Get Outta Town" exhibition has something to offer everyone. Be sure to drop by the gallery and check it out!
