What's in a name? Finding meaning beyond the abstract with Paulette Melanson

We're thrilled to share some exciting NEW works by Gallery Artist Paulette Melanson! These energetic abstract paintings are full of colour and vitality. What draws people to abstract art? Is it an artist's palette or the infinite combinations of shapes and forms that bring an abstracted work to life?  Today we examine another feature of a painting that's also a amazing source of inspiration, the title...

"Every Little Bit Counts" is indicative of our efforts in the last 2 years, as we continue to navigate the great unknown, AND is one of five new paintings currently in our window display across the street!

Paulette Melanson, "Every Little Bit Counts", 20" x 20", acrylic on canvas

A title can provide viewers with some context for a abstracted work.  It can suggest a feeling or emotion.  It can also reference a specific place or time...

Paulette Melanson, "All Living Creatures have a Function", 20" x 20", acrylic on canvas

A title can also provide us some insight into an artists' thought process, or painting practice, and through their art, we can see it expressed on the canvas in a tangible way...

Paulette Melanson, "Escaping Reality", 16" x 20", acrylic on canvas

Paulette Melanson, "Lungs of the Planet", 36" x 48", acrylic on canvas

The goal of abstract art is not to find a literal interpretation. Often times, there isn't one! Everyone will find meaning in each piece that is unique to them.  A title can help guide you on this journey.  The best way to enjoy art is always to see it person, so be sure to drop by and experience these amazing new works in person!
