Saturday Songs & Sunbeams

Last weekend we hosted a funky fun afternoon of live music at the gallery!

From the outside looking in - Urban Surf Kings playing live in the gallery

With the help of our friends from the Down Town Business Commission we were able to invite five local musicans into our space and host a FREE live music event for the community.

It was a real treat to have the musical stylings of five different acts all together in one afternoon!

We started off the event with Chris Henshaw, a singer-songwriter & multi-instrumentalist from Cole Harbour, NS.

"Chris’ songs are a documentation of his life as a young person struggling to find a place in the world. The songs represent his life, people he’s known, and the people he has been. The songs depict feelings of anguish and rejoice that one has as they carry out their life’s journey. They can be drenched with sorrow, or showered with elation. Though, no matter the tone of the song, each is delivered genuinely. There is always a sense that Chris is baring his soul to the listener."

Chloe Eden came out next in our line up - orginally Izra Fitch was scheduled to be with us but a pesky flu had her bed bound... bitter sweet, as she was the one who reccomended Chloe Eden and oh boy Chloe did not dissapoint!

Chloe sang a collection of both original songs and covers

Chloe, a 15 year old from Fall River, may be young but sung with the soul of a person who has lived well beyond her years!

Her music was both angelic and moving... we cant wait to see what other incredible things Chloe gets up to her in music career!

There was always a crowd... some folks staying all day to enjoy the live music!

Leanne Hoffman took the stage third in our musical afternoon

"Leanne Hoffman is a multi-disciplinary artist, songwriter, and producer living in Halifax, NS. She released her first solo, full-length album in May 2019, earning four nominations at the Music Nova Scotia Awards, winning two, and a nomination for an East Coast Music Award."

Leanne captured the audience with her beautiful lyrics, witty stage-banter and even offered up a Cher sing-a-long!

Brad Conrad followed after and brought the blues with him!

And finally we ended the day with the always upbeat Urban Surf Kings!

The Urban Surf Kings
"Rev Hank" left on guitar
"Crash" right on bass
"Inky" on drums

"Rev Hank" jaming out!

"Crash" groooving away...

& "Inky" keeping the beat and the vibes!

and to end this awesome show of local talent the Urban Surf Kings invited Brad Conrad back onto the stage for a little duo guitar!
After remincising of growing up in the same town where access to musical instruments was often scarce "Rev Hank" and Brad learned to share in the most ingenious way...

Two men one guitar!

All in all it was a wonderful early spring afternoon spent!
We love hosting free community events like this at the gallery and we love seeing all the wonderful folks come out and the ones who stumble in.
Thank you to both the muscians and our friends at the DHBC for making this possible!

Stay tuned for even more fun stuff coming up every Saturday for the next couple weeks!
