SUNDAY STUDIO DAYS: Danny Abriel & Craig Baltzer

We're bringing you a double feature this weekend, with this installment of our Sunday Studio Days series!

Here's a "behind-the-scenes" look at the Studios of Gallery Artists Danny Abriel and Craig Baltzer.

Gallery Artist Danny Abriel posing inside his Halifax Studio.

Occasionally working from a study or preparatory drawing, Danny uses the studio to explore how a painting should “feel”.  The colour palette is carefully chosen as part of an emotional response.  Painting serves as a creative outlet, both cathartic in its application and ritualistic in its approach.

Hard at work, we see Danny adding the finishing touches to a recent painting.

Living in Halifax, Danny makes time to be in Nature.  Access to walking trails and parks are all within reach, and Danny often revisits areas that are familiar to him, and draws his inspiration from the surrounding area.

Here's a quick look at Craig Baltzer's Studio.  Craig considers himself to be a visual artist with his hands in many pots; painter, photographer and sketch artist...

An inside look at Craig's studio, featuring a recent work in progress...

"Drawing has become a daily practice for me and helps carry me from day to day, inspiring my paintings as well..."

Tools of the trade...a snapshot of Craig's watercolour palette, for his pen and ink drawings.

A recent commission by Craig Baltzer; "Sievert's Tobacco Shop" on Barrington St., Halifax (SOLD)

"...I'm working on a collection of work inspired from family album photographs which seem appropriate for these times as looking back at fond and life changing memories help bring joy and hope for a brighter and hopefully productive life and future to come." - Craig Baltzer
